News: Kyle Kendrick became the first Phillies starter to earn a victory tonight as the Phils beat the Reds 8-4 in Cincinnati. Kendrick allowed 4 runs on 8 hits in five innings of work. Chase Utley hit two homeruns, including his 100th career dinger off of Jeremy Affeldt in the 5th inning. Pat Burrell hit a solo home run to cap off a 3 run 1st inning that gave the Phils a lead they did not relinquish. Ryan Madson, Rudy Seanez and JC Romero combined to pitch the final 4 innings. Tomorrow Adam Eaton will take the mound against Aaron Harang.
Views: Kendrick did was Kendrick always does: just enough to win. It would’ve been nice if he could have gone deeper into the game since Charlie had to use most of the bullpen in Friday’s wild win over the Nationals. Even though a lot of experts in Philly are calling for Kendrick to hit the sophomore slump I think he will be a serviceable pitcher who could possibly win 12 or 13 games this year, depending on how healthy he stays. Seanez looked good again and Romero bounced back from his shaky outing yesterday.
Player of the Game: 2B Chase Utley 2-4, 2 HR, 3 RBI, 2 R, BB
